“Received” means we have your file. We will tell you separately once it has been reviewed.
Documents you may need
You can start gathering these now. We will tell you if we need anything else.
- Photo ID
- For both parents. A driver’s license, passport or other photo ID.
- Birth certificates
- One for every child, even children who are not applying for child care.
- Proof of residence
- Two different documents, such as a bank statement or a utility bill.
- Pay stubs
- The last 12 weeks, for both parents. If you have worked there for less than 12 weeks, add a letter from your employer with your start date, days and hours, and pay rate, plus any pay stubs you have.
- Wage letter
- For both parents. From your employer, signed and on business letterhead, with your hours per day and per week and your exact pay per hour or salary.
- Other income
- Only if you have it, for both parents: child support, Social Security, rental income, a second job and so on.
- Proof of mortgage
- Only if you own any property, even the home you live in.
- Government programs
- You will check off any programs either parent receives, such as Medicaid or SNAP.
- Child care provider
- The name, address, phone number and weekly charge of your child care provider.
You can send PDF files and photos (JPG, PNG or iPhone photos), up to 25 MB each.
Who can see your documents
- Only our office can open your documents. They are encrypted and kept private.
- After you upload a file, you will see its name on your checklist, but it cannot be opened from your account. If someone gets into your email, they still cannot see your documents.
- Your files are deleted 60 days after your file is closed. We keep a record of your signed authorization for 6 years. Please keep your own copies.

Is this the government application?
No. FileForMeNY is an independent service. We help you gather your paperwork and submit your application. Orange County’s Department of Social Services decides whether you qualify.
Do I need a computer?
No. A phone with a camera is enough. If you have no internet or email, call us and we will set up your file for you.
What if I don’t have a document?
Upload what you have and call us about the rest. Another document may work instead.
What if my file is a Word document?
Save it as a PDF or take a photo of it, then upload that.
